NEW disposal rates and on-site payment facilities are being introduced at South Gloucestershire's recycling centres for residents getting rid of construction waste.
Since August 2011, householders carrying out their own small DIY projects have been able to take up to six bags or a car boot load of DIY and construction material per project, to one of the four Sort It! centres for free.
That arrangement will continue but from June 1, site staff will work out the fee there and then, rather than asking people to drive to a commercial facility.
Staff will only be able to accept cash and they will provide a receipt. All transactions will be recorded but residents can opt to take the material away or use an alternative waste facility if they wish.
Mike Wildman, operations manager for Sita UK in South Gloucestershire, said: "We are streamlining the process for the minority of local residents who have more than six bags of DIY waste to dispose of and offering special rates that are easy to understand."
Traders must continue to use a commercial weighbridge and cannot take waste from commercial activities of any type to the recycling centres.
