Measure to end death penalty in California trails

SACRAMENTO (Reuters) - A California ballot measure to abolish the death penalty on cost grounds trailed in early results, even as voters in the most populous U.S. state agreed to soften a "three strikes" law that gave longer sentences to habitual criminals.
