AN 80-year-old who fell foul of a con trick has been helped by police who identified her as a victim of fraud.
Concerned family members contacted the police after the woman was convinced to send on large amounts of cheques to an address abroad after being told she had won a substantial cash prize after completing a survey.
Officers from the Hengrove and Whitchurch attended her address and identified she'd be a victim of a complicated fraud that involved other victims across the Country.
An officer assisted the elderly lady in changing her phone number, upgraded her home security and accompanied her to the bank where £2000 was seized in order to find the rightful.
After a little detective work another victim - an 81-year-old lady from Kent was identified as the loser of the £2,000 and the cash was returned to her.
PC Neil Topping said:" The team worked quickly to not only prevent the 80 year old woman from sending money to the fraudster but to also return the cash to another victim in Kent, a lovely early Christmas present for someone who had been duped by this fraudsters.
"Work continues to identify the offender and I would urge anyone who gets anonymous phone calls, telling them they have won a cash prize to put the phone down.
"Quite often these prizes sound too good to be true and they are. If in doubt please call us."
Investigations now continue to identify the offender, anyone with information or anyone who has been a victim of a similar type of fraud is asked to call us on 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
