A CONVICTED killer was arrested in Bristol today in an operation involving armed police.
Kairan Greenwood was wanted for recall to prison after breaching the conditions of his release on licence.
Greenwood was one of a gang of muggers who in 2003 attacked 38-year-old busker Alistair MacLeod in Easton, knocking him to the ground and inflicting fatal head injuries as they grappled for his bike.
He was still a teenager when he was given a 40-month sentence for manslaughter.
Since then, the 25-year-old has been jailed again for further violent crimes.
Police had been searching for him since September, for breaching a curfew imposed after his release from prison after his latest sentence.
Avon and Somerset police said Greenwood was detained at an undisclosed address in Fishponds at around 2pm today, in an operation involving armed police.
A spokeswoman said that as officers arrived at the house where he was found, Greenwood had tried to escape through the roof, by smashing his way into the loft.
In 2010 The Post reported that Greenwood had been jailed for three years, with an extended two-year licence period, after pleading guilty to affray and assault causing actual bodily harm.
The first charge related to a violent incident at a block of flats in Easton, where he threw a bike and kicked a disabled man, while the second involved an attack in which he glassed a student in Stapleton Road.
He was given another 10-week sentence for possessing a bladed article after getting into a taxi in Easton while armed with a knife.
Detective Inspector Mark Rolfe, from Avon and Somerset police's Serious Crime Group said: "This individual had a firm resolve to remain at large and, with a significant violent criminal history, posed a potential risk to our communities. Today's successful policing operation means he is back behind bars this evening.
"We are aware of the positive impact this arrest will have on the community and I would like to thank those members of the public who provide us with the intelligence that is vital to our work."
