Bristol Rovers boss Mark McGhee has paid tribute to the work of his assistant Shaun North – and made it clear he will be more than happy to continue working alongside him next season.
North arrived at the club last summer as number two to Paul Buckle – who was sacked by the Pirates in early January – and then had three games as caretaker boss.
McGhee made it clear on his arrival later that month he wanted to try and work alongside the club's existing backroom staff, and has praised the work North has carried out following his appointment.
"Shaun has been brilliant," said McGhee. "He has a great knowledge of teams and players in this division and what's necessary. He gave us continuity in terms of me understanding our own squad.
"On the training ground he is meticulous and has a brilliant work ethic.
"I was at home on Wednesday night with my feet up watching the Barcelona game on TV and he phoned me to tell me he was at Craven Cottage to watch Fulham play Burnley in an FA Youth Cup game.
"That's not something I sent him along to, but that's the type of guy he is. It's really impressive and this football club is lucky to have someone like him here."
Asked if he'd be happy to continue working alongside North beyond the end of the season, McGhee replied: "Absolutely."
Rovers travel to promotion-chasing Torquay United tomorrow with McGhee warning his players they can't afford a repeat of the start they made to Tuesday's 3-2 defeat at Northampton, where they found themselves three goals down inside 20 minutes.
"We made a slow start on Tuesday and the one thing that we lacked was aggression – they were more determined than us to keep the ball and get the ball back, although we upped the ante and improved in the second half," said McGhee. "When I talk about aggression, I'm not talking about injuring people – I'm talking about aggression on the ball in the way you control it and pass it as much as tackling, heading and shooting."
